Children cannot absorb sufficient vitamin D through food until the age of 4. Exposure to the outdoors and sunlight is also insufficient. Therefore, all children are advised to take a supplement of 10 micrograms of vitamin D daily from one week after birth until the age of 4. This recommendation applies to both breastfeeding and bottle-feeding.
